Kieron Pollard Joins England as Assistant Coach for T20 World Cup 2024

Kieron Pollard, the former West Indies star, has been named England’s assistant coach for the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup, set to unfold in the West Indies and the United States. This appointment is focused on leveraging Pollard’s extensive knowledge of the local conditions.

Kieron Pollard joins England as assistant coach for T20 World Cup 2024, having played 101 T20 Internationals for the West Indies, including a victorious campaign in the 2012 T20 World Cup, and leading the team in the 2021 edition, Pollard brings a wealth of experience to the role. Despite retiring from international cricket in 2022, he remains active in various franchise leagues.

Recently, Pollard led the New York Strikers to triumph in the Abu Dhabi T10 League and guided the Trinbago Knight Riders to the final of CPL 2023. He also captains MI Emirates in the ILT20 and is the batting coach for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

England is going into the tournament as the current champions but faces challenges following a disappointing ODI World Cup campaign in India, where they won only three out of nine matches and narrowly qualified for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

The T20 World Cup, spanning from June 4 to 30, will be hosted across seven venues in the Caribbean and three in the USA.

In a separate announcement, the ECB confirmed Kieron Pollard joins England as assistant coach for T20 World Cup 2024. Pollard, who retired from all cricket forms in April 2022, was part of the West Indies team that secured the T20 World Cup victory in 2012 and has an impressive record of playing 637 T20 matches. His appointment aims to provide insights into local conditions and strategies.

Pollard’s career highlights include captaining the West Indies in 63 T20Is, amassing 1,569 runs, and taking 42 wickets in 101 matches. He was also a key player for Mumbai Indians, contributing to five IPL titles under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.

The T20 World Cup for the year 2024 will be the 9th time this event is held and the second time it will occur in the West Indies. With 20 teams competing, England will aim to defend their title, having won the 2022 edition in Australia and their first T20 World Cup in 2010, also hosted in the West Indies.
